Jointly Blueprinting a New Future for Collaborative Development


On June 21, 2025, the Seminar on Talent Introduction and Scientific Research Innovation Projects of the GDPU Malian Joint Laboratory was held at Malian's headquarters. The seminar aimed to deepen the university enterprise collaborative talent cultivation mechanism, explore the joint introduction model of high level talents, and promote the implementation and effectiveness of scientific research innovation projects.Leaders and colleagues from relevant departments participated in the discussion, including Xu Jingshui, Dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Guangdong University of Petrochemical Technology, Yi Dongsheng, President of Meilian New Materials, Zhang Chaokai, General Manager of Technology, Zhang Chaoyi, General Manager of Procurement, Lin Huashan, General Manager of Marketing, and Li Xiaojie, General Manager of Production. All participants offered suggestions for the high-quality development of the joint laboratory.

Xu Jingshui from the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Guangdong University of Petrochemical Technology focused on elaborating the university’s accumulation in the basic research of masterbatches and its faculty strength. Meanwhile, he proposed directions for scientific and technological breakthroughs based on Malian’s existing industries and development orientations.Zhang Chaokai, Meilian’s General Manager of Technology, focused on industrial pain points and the "bottleneck" problems faced by current technologies, putting forward directions that require intellectual support from universities. Lin Huashan, General Manager of Marketing, elaborated on the current difficulties in market demand. Zhang Chaoyi, General Manager of Procurement, stated: "We should not fear trial and error in technological innovation; instead, we need to be bold in innovation, base ourselves on long term development, and truly take the path of technological innovation." Zhang Chaokai added: "For talent introduction projects, it is necessary to establish innovative cooperation models and coordination mechanisms to ensure the smooth progress of scientific research projects."

After in depth discussions, both parties identified the technical breakthrough directions in the masterbatch field. Regarding talent cooperation, they agreed to introduce talents centered on "masterbatch technology," with a focus on recruiting young scholars with interdisciplinary backgrounds in polymer processing to effectively address the enterprise’s technical challenges and market demands.

This seminar has revealed a clear path for university enterprise collaboration to address industry challenges. In the future, we will take the joint laboratory as a link to accelerate the transformation of masterbatch technology from "the laboratory" to "the production line," and promote the upgrading of China’s masterbatch industry towards high endization and functionalization.

Talent introduction and scientific research innovation are the "dual driver" to break through the industry’s technological bottlenecks, requiring universities and enterprises to integrate resources and make targeted efforts. The successful holding of this seminar has laid a foundation for the university enterprise joint laboratory to focus on targeted efforts in the masterbatch field. In the next step, the laboratory will launch the recruitment of industry leading talents, providing dual support of technology and talents for the enterprise’s development.
